Message The M3 develops its maximum HP (333 I believe) at 7900 rpm. Torque would by 221 ft-lb. It is a 3.2 liter straight six.

My NA develops something like 260 HP (208.4 rwhp) at 6000 rpm. Torque would be equal to 228 ft-lb. But, my torque begins to fall off above 6000 rpm and thus the HP curve begins to fall at higher engine speeds (look at the dyno chart).

The BMW engine is set up to operate at higher speeds. The Z engine could be set up the same way (stronger internals, better balancing, shorter intake runners etc.) and could concievably develop 300 NA HP.
